We understand that your first visit to a medical oncologist can feel overwhelming. This guide will help you feel prepared and confident for your consultation with Dr. Michael Lee.
What to Bring - Essential Checklist
Required Documents
- Referral letter from your GP or specialist (or email it to referrals@[practice].com.au)
- Medicare card - current and valid
- Private health insurance card (if applicable)
- Patient Registration Form - Download PDF here (we’ll email this to you)
Medical Information
- All recent test results including:
- Pathology reports (blood tests, biopsy results)
- Radiology reports (CT, MRI, PET scans, X-rays)
- Endoscopy reports (if applicable)
- Complete medication list including:
- Prescription medications (names and dosages)
- Over-the-counter medications
- Supplements and vitamins
- Any medications you’re allergic to
Personal Preparation
- List of questions you want to ask Dr. Lee
- Family medical history (especially cancer history)
- Support person - you’re welcome to bring a family member or friend
- Notebook or device to take notes during the consultation
Understanding Fees and Billing
Fee Transparency
Dr. Lee believes in complete fee transparency. You will receive detailed fee information before your appointment.
- Consultation fees are payable on the day of your visit
- A “gap” fee may apply - this is the difference between what Dr. Lee charges and the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) fee
- Medicare claims are processed on your behalf - rebates typically processed same day
- Fee estimates available upon request by calling reception
Private Health Insurance
- Hospital cover vs consultation coverage are different
- We recommend contacting your private health fund directly to understand your coverage
- Treatment costs and consultation fees are separate items
Payment Options
- Cash, EFTPOS, and credit card accepted
- Medicare processing handled on-site
- Private health insurance claims can be processed where applicable
